Events of 2010
2010 saw many local events throughout Forth Valley in which the Real Nappy Network made an appearance. These events are annual and you should keep an eye out for these during 2011.
Along with the regular Nappuccinos, parentcrafts and family centre visits, many other local events were attended throughout 2010. These events are usually annual and will therefore be something to look out for during 2011.
The NCT Nearly New Sale was attended by the Nappy Network in March and September 2010. NCT is the leading charity dealing with pregnancy, birth and early childhood. NCT runs courses and training programmes, along with running campaigns and regular fundraising events such as Nearly New Sales. Donations of clothes, toys, prams, maternity wear, nursery equipment, nappies and books are given to the NCT to be sold during the Sale. Many other groups are usually present to sell their products, give advice or to provide information.
One of the main annual celebrations was Real Nappy Week (w/c 26th April). Most council areas throughout Scotland usually hold several events during this week. In 2010, the start of Real Nappy Week began with the Glasgow Baby Show on 23rd April. The show ran over 3 days and consisted of many companies and organisations that specialise in baby products, clothing, toys etc... Many Real Nappy companies were in attendance including Baba Me, Lollipop, and Tots Bots. Real Nappy Week also saw the Forth Valley Real Nappy Network attend more Nappuccinos and Demonstration Stalls. One main Nappuccino was held in Cadwinkles in Falkirk. We also attended the St Ninians Development Trust Environmental Fair, which was an excellent event hosting many environmental organisations and independent companies.
The summer of 2010 saw many events, mainly of outdoor summer fairs, show and galas. The Nappy Network attended 6 separate events: Cambusbarron Gala; Strathard Eco Week Family Day; Tillicoultry Gala; Doune and Dunblane Show; Tullibody Gala; and Raploch Community Family Day. All of these events had many local organisations and companies, from local environmental groups and agricultural societies to small craft stalls and entertainers. The Doune and Dunblane Show, is one of the largest shows here, and is a fantastic family day out. Not only do they have many stalls of all sizes and displaying many products, but they also have animals; kids rides and entertainment areas; snack and drinks stalls; and of course parades and display shows.
The Autumn and Winter of 2010 saw more eco and energy fairs in Killearn and Stirling; the Stirling Freshers Fair and some Volunteer organisation events. The Killearn Eco Fair was a community based and organised event. Many local environmental and renewable energy companies attended, alongside the local Eco School, the Balfron Eco bus, and the Bike Powered Smoothie Maker. It was a fantastic day out for everyone and a great networking event for all who held a stall. The CVS held not only a local Fair but also a winter charities event. The weather in December did cut down the expected numbers, but it was a very productive and excellent day.
Many of the events mentioned above will be organised again for 2011, please visit our Calendar page for updates on local events and websites that you can visit.
