West Moss-side supported by Scottish Natural Heritage is organising a special event – Moths on the Moss will take place over the evening of Fri 3rd and the morning of Sat 4th August. It will be real hands on experience. On Friday evening at 7.00pm Professor David Bryant will give an introduction to the art and practicality of mothing, you will have an opportunity to practice some identification of moths caught the previous evening, you can try your hand at taking photographs (is anyone entering the BBC Countryfile competition?) and then about 9.00pm you can go out and set up the moth trap close to the Trossachs Yurts at West Moss-side. There will be evening nightcap refreshments and for those who want to stay on – you can watch the moths come in and also go and turn on the moth trap out on the Moss (10.00-11.00pm). Early next morning (9.00am) David will take you over the Moss to see what has come in overnight. You will help do the identification and count them - the moths will then be released and it’s back to West Moss-side for coffee and cake! Finish 11.00am.
It promises to be a fascinating event – Booking is essential and there is a small charge of £5.00 per person, Children £2.00. Please contact Kate Sankey by phone 01786 850428 or email kate@westmossside.com or visit the web site www.westmossside.com
